ADD/ADHD Testing for Adults and Children

One of the most common disorders among American children is Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which accounts for about two million cases. A large number of adults are considered to have it as well. Individuals diagnosed with ADHD generally have significant issues in the following areas: inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.

The condition can hinder memory, learning and concentration. ADHD is not the result of poor parenting or an impoverished environment, but it is a neurological disorder with biological underpinnings that interfere with an individual’s abilities to concentrate, follow through with tasks or engage in activities that require sustained mental effort, thereby inhibiting success for that individual academically, vocationally and relationally.

The following behaviors and signs may indicate that a child or adult should have a formal evaluation for ADHD Houston facilities:

  • Fails to give close attention to details
  • Has difficulty staying attentive
  • Does not appear to listen
  • Struggles with follow through
  • Fidgets excessively
  • Difficulty waiting turn
  • Interrupts frequently

Because everyone can exhibit symptoms of ADHD at some point in life, a formal evaluation is necessary in order to diagnose ADHD. Professional, trained counselors and psychologists at the Houston Carole and Ronald Krist Samaritan Center for Counseling and Education administer recommendations. Depending on the findings of such an evaluation, recommendations would be made to assist the individual in areas that previously were problematic.
