Celebrating the Samaritan Spirit
Krist Samaritan Center Honors Houstonians Committed to Helping Others
Carol and Michael Linn, Rahul Mehta, Alice and Keith Mosing, and Kids’ Meals, Inc. were honored at this year’s Krist Samaritan Center gala, A Samaritan Celebration, held Nov. 4, 2010 at the River Oaks Country Club. The event raised nearly $250,000 for the Center’s Counseling Assistance Fund, a fund providing high-quality counseling and mental health services to those in need on a sliding fee scale.
More than 325 people attended the event chaired by Diane and Brian Kingshill. The night was dedicated to the six honorees, who were bestowed with the Samaritan Spirit Award by the Krist Samaritan Center for their charitable work in the Houston community and beyond.
Supporters in attendance at the event included Susan and Dick Hansen, Christy and Lou Cushman, Carol and John Howenstine, Shelly and Bill Richter, and Carole and Ronald Krist, among others. Guests had the opportunity to bid in the event’s silent and live auctions, with all proceeds benefiting the Center and its counseling and mental health services.
“We had the privilege of honoring some extraordinary individuals and an outstanding organization this year,” said Executive Director of Krist Samaritan Center Dr. Jerry DeSobe. “Each one of our honorees truly exemplifies what it means to be a Good Samaritan through their significant contributions to human health and growth.”
The Samaritan Spirit Award is based on the story of the Good Samaritan, in which the unexpected helper helps. The award pays tribute to those individuals and organizations in the Greater Houston community who have demonstrated the Samaritan Spirit by selflessly reaching out to those in need.
