The Carole and Ronald Krist Samaritan Center for Counseling and Education is proud to announce its partnership with Memorial Drive United Methodist Church (MDUMC) to offer the Houston Memorial area a new location for counseling services. With services based on a sliding-fee scale, the Krist Samaritan Center provides professional counseling to children, adults, couples and families in need of guidance and healing.
Dr. Franklin Olson, director of counseling at MDUMC, recently announced his retirement from the families and counseling ministry, leaving an important church position that needed to be filled. With the recommendation of Dr. Olson, the Krist Samaritan Center will now step in and provide one-on-one counseling to the congregation and community.
“We have been aware of the Krist Samaritan Center for some time, and when looking for a replacement after my retirement, the Center was the first name that came to mind” said Dr. Olson. “The Krist Samaritan Center will give Memorial Drive United Methodist the ability to serve a more diverse population by providing more opportunities for treatment and counseling for our whole community.”
The Krist Samaritan Center will offer counseling on Mondays to the church, and will be staffed by Krist Samaritan Center licensed professional counselor, Suzanne Counts. The church's congregation, as well as the local community, will be able to set up an appointment for a counseling session at MDUMC by contacting the Krist Samaritan Center.
“Our counseling ministry is very involved and we wanted to continue the wonderful service Dr. Olson provided to our congregation,” said Dr. Charles Simmons, senior minister at MDUMC. “The Samaritan Center offers local credibility, as well as the confidence and support of a wonderful nationwide organization.”
Founded in 1958, Memorial Drive United Methodist Church has served as a vibrant and active community of faith for almost 50 years. Located at 12955 Memorial Drive in Houston, Texas, MDUMC is a congregation of loving and committed people who faithfully live out Christ’s commandment to love God and neighbor. “We knew it was time to take the next step to address our community’s counseling needs,” said Dr. Simmons. “With the help of the Center, not only does our staff have an accessible, close referral source, but we, as a church, can help the many folks who come to us with their hopes and needs.”
